Tension rock APC Akinyele where some members of the party declined the imposition of candidate, this led to a protest at the party’s state secretariat in Ibadan, calling for fairness, inclusiveness and strict guideline to the existing rotational arrangement in the Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency.
The protesters described their action as a fight for their justice, insisted that their protest was orderly and not an act of violence but a coordinated effort to ensure that Akinyele voice is heard within the party structure ahead of the 2027 House of Representatives election.
The protesters launched inscription from their placards sayings “No Going Back” it’s Akinyele Turn,” let make peace. The aggrieved members urged the party leadership to respect the long standing zoning arrangement guiding representation in the constituency.
In a related development, aspirants from Akinyele LG reinforced the demand in a letter address to the state APC chairman Mr Moses Adeyemo, the letter signed by several stakeholders including Adigun Abiodun, Sulaimon Ajibade, Olumide Alli, Bolaji Badmus and Abdulwasiu Ajao, reiterated that it was Akinyele turn to produce the party’s candidate.
They expressed concern over indications that the current arrangement might altered to favour an incumbent from Lagelu, and the move might erode trust, internal crisis and weaken grassroots support.
Control to revisit the agreement will reinforce confidence and strengthen our collective victory, the letter stated.
The APC publicity secretary, Alh Sadare responded, urged calm and assured them that the party leadership will address their concerns.
