Turaki-led NWC protests as Wike faction takes over PDP headquarters

The national working committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Turaki, has kicked against the unsealing of the party’s headquarters in Abuja by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The police had sealed the PDP national secretariat in November 2025, following a leadership crisis that degenerated into violence at the premises.

On Saturday, the PDP faction backed by Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), said the party’s national secretariat in Wuse, known as Wadata Plaza, and the Legacy House in Maitama have been handed over to Abdulrahman Mohammed, the national chairman.

In a statement, Jungudo Mohammed, spokesperson of the Mohammed’s faction, described the police action as “adherence to the rule of law”, warning that the party would not tolerate any disruption of activities at the PDP secretariat.

“This action is a clear demonstration of respect for constitutional order and due process. All individuals and groups are advised to conduct themselves within the bounds of the law, as security agencies have been duly alerted to take necessary action against violators,” he said.

In a statement, Ini Ememobong, national publicity secretary of the Turaki-led NWC, said the police’s decision is “contemptuous,” alleging that the force enabled the forceful takeover of the party’s headquarters by “agents of the federal government and APC apologists masquerading as PDP members”.

Ememobong argued that the court ruling relied upon by the police to unseal the PDP secretariat had been appealed, adding that unsealing the office could undermine proceedings before the appellate court.

“By their action, they have tampered with the res, and that can render the judgment of the Court of Appeal nugatory, when it is eventually given. It is most shameful that those entrusted with protecting the law are those disobeying the law,” he said.

Ememobong accused the police of acting in a partisan manner in the PDP leadership dispute.

In March, the electoral umpire recognised the faction backed by the FCT minister, following the national convention that produced Mohammed.
