Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in six local government areas of Oyo State have commended the party leadership for the peaceful conduct of its ward, local government and state congresses, while calling for a review of the party’s zoning arrangement at the national level.
The stakeholders, drawn from Akinyele, Egbeda, Ido, Lagelu, Oluyole and Ona-Ara LGAs, made this known in a communiqué issued after their quarterly meeting held at the party’s secretariat along New Ife Road in Ibadan on Tuesday.
The communiqué, signed by Kamorudeen Ajisafe (Chairman) and Buliaminu Ogundele (Secretary), said the congresses were successfully conducted despite initial concerns based on past experiences.
“A few months ago, the fear from many quarters about the possibility of another round of controversy emanating from the planned congresses was palpable as a result of previous experiences of 2018 and 2022.
“Now that the congresses are over, naysayers and doubting Thomases have been placed where they rightfully belonged. Oyo APC emerged stronger and better focused after the whole exercise.” the stakeholders said.
They attributed the outcome to the leadership’s adoption of consensus and the conduct of party members, noting that the exercise was peaceful across the state.
“This laudable feat could not have been achieved without the display of maturity and decorum by the leadership of the party following the recommendation of consensus from the national secretariat.
“It is on record that the congresses were conducted without any incident of violence across the 351 wards and 33 local government areas,” the stakeholders said.
The group also congratulated a former deputy governor of the state, Moses Adeyemo, on his emergence as the new state chairman, pledging support for his leadership.
“More importantly, we use this medium to congratulate the former deputy governor of the state, Moses Adeyemo, on his emergence as the new state Chairman, while we assure him and his team of our maximum cooperation and support to facilitate the realisation of the goals and objectives set for 2027 and beyond,” they said.
