The Nigerian Navy has arrested personnel involved in a public altercation with soldiers in Bayelsa State during a visit by President Bola Tinubu.
A viral video circulating online showed uniformed officers exchanging blows after a disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation.
In the footage, a driver of a vehicle marked “Naval Police” was seen engaging in a heated argument with another motorist before the situation degenerated when a soldier, armed with a rifle, approached him, leading to a clash.
The incident reportedly occurred as the President was leaving the venue of an official event, sparking widespread reactions from Nigerians who criticised the conduct of the security personnel.
Reacting to the development, the Director of Naval Information, Abi Folorunso, confirmed that the personnel involved had been detained and were undergoing disciplinary procedures.
He stated that the affected officers are currently in custody and are being subjected to appropriate administrative and disciplinary actions in line with existing military regulations.
