In the footage, the man claimed he acted in self-defence, stating that he was attacked and suppressed in Ibadan before retaliating, which led to the deaths of 32 individuals. He further alleged that security operatives, including police officers and soldiers, encountered him after the incident and commended his actions.

The suspect also expressed loyalty to President Tinubu, affirming his support for the President’s 2027 ambition.

Reacting to the viral video, the Oyo State Police Command denied any knowledge of the suspect and distanced itself from the claims made in the footage.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command stated that there is no record of any individual identified as Shawarma having been arrested or processed by its operatives.

The police noted that the individual was seen in the video in the company of others, making claims of involvement in the killing of 32 people, but maintained that such a person had not come into its custody at any time.

The command, however, confirmed that it had commenced a full-scale investigation into the allegations contained in the video.

It stated that the investigation was initiated as part of its responsibility to ensure public safety and verify the authenticity of the claims made by the suspect.

According to the police, the probe is being carried out using advanced technology, including digital forensics and digital footprint analysis, to establish credible findings.

The command also appealed to members of the public to assist with useful information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect and any accomplices.

It assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track those involved and bring them to justice in accordance with the law.

The police further reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order across Oyo State while ensuring that all allegations are thoroughly investigated.
