Former presidential candidate, Dele Momodu, has said President Bola Tinubu will lose the 2027 general election if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar contests on a joint ticket with a prominent politician from the South.
Momodu made the remark during an appearance on Channels Television on Sunday, March 15, where he discussed possible political alignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He explained that a North–South coalition ticket led by Atiku could significantly weaken the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election.
Momodu noted that if Atiku forms a presidential ticket with a southern political figure such as Peter Obi or Rotimi Amaechi, the development could affect Tinubu’s chances in the election.
According to him, such a political combination would pose a major challenge to Tinubu’s political structure and could undermine the foundation of his support base.
Meanwhile, Atiku, Obi and Amaechi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under different political parties, have recently aligned politically within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of moves aimed at challenging the incumbent administration.
The three politicians are also believed to be considering participation in the 2027 presidential race.
The ADC has scheduled its national convention for April 14, 2026, following ward and state congresses expected to commence on April 7.
